Burlington, Vermont — Anthony Pollina says Vermont can raise revenue without raising taxes.
Monday morning, the Progressive candidate for Governor announced a plan for a Vermont Credit Card. A portion of every purchase made on the card would be invested in a fund to support agricultural and renewable energy projects in the state, similar to current Rewards Programs. Pollina calls it a win-win for all and says it will help strengthen Vermont’s economy. (more…)

The list of eliminated jobs released by Gov. James Douglas’ administration included a deputy commissioner in the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living, a prison superintendent and 35 positions that were authorized and funded but never filled. (more…)

Cost of a gallon of maple syrup at Kent’s Corner Sugarhouse in Calais in 2005: $36. Cost of a gallon now: $48.
Average cost for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Vermont in January of 2003, the month Jim Douglas became governor: $1.52. Average cost in June: $3.97.
