Pollina proposes credit card to benefit agriculture, energy projects

Montpelier, VT — (Host) The Progressive Party candidate for governor wants to harness the power of consumers to jumpstart farm and energy projects.

Anthony Pollina proposed his idea for a new Vermont Credit Card yesterday. Under Pollina’s plan, a percentage of each purchase made with the Vermont Card will be invested in a special fund to support local agricultural and energy projects. (more…)

Burlington, Vermont — Anthony Pollina says Vermont can raise revenue without raising taxes.

Monday morning, the Progressive candidate for Governor announced a plan for a Vermont Credit Card. A portion of every purchase made on the card would be invested in a fund to support agricultural and renewable energy projects in the state, similar to current Rewards Programs. Pollina calls it a win-win for all and says it will help strengthen Vermont’s economy. (more…)

The new fiscal year for the state of Vermont began last week with the announcement that 150 jobs would be eliminated.

The list of eliminated jobs released by Gov. James Douglas’ administration included a deputy commissioner in the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living, a prison superintendent and 35 positions that were authorized and funded but never filled. (more…)

MONTPELIER — Cost of a five-pound bag of flour at Mehuron’s Supermarket in Waitsfield in 2005: $1.89. Cost as of June: $2.79.

Cost of a gallon of maple syrup at Kent’s Corner Sugarhouse in Calais in 2005: $36. Cost of a gallon now: $48.

Average cost for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Vermont in January of 2003, the month Jim Douglas became governor: $1.52. Average cost in June: $3.97.

Pollina: Douglas rewarded cronies while planning to cut jobs
