Pollina Reaffirms Support for Obama — Points to Organizing Background as Right Kind of Experience

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

June 3, 2008 Press Statement:

With the Democratic primaries coming to an end, I look forward to Barack Obama’s general election victory – in Vermont and across the nation. I have said before that the day Obama takes office America will have more than a new President.

I appreciate his ability to come from behind. The early polls and pundits painted him as inexperienced and too far to the left. But he was able to go beyond the pundits to speak to and connect directly to people across the country. (more…)

Pollina statement regarding route 2 bridge closure

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

May 30, 2008 Press Statement:

Luckily, Vermont avoided a disaster today but learned another hard lesson about the cost of putting off essential maintenance. Maintenance and repairs would have cost less and avoided closure of the route 2 bridge connecting Middlesex and Moretown. The current governor has a habit of ignoring tough decisions and postponing the work that we can’t avoid. He is penny wise and pound foolish. His unwillingness to invest in maintenance is costing taxpayers more in the long run. How does this fit in the affordability agenda? (more…)

A winning campaign for Governor

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

May 29, 2008 Press Statement:

We launched a campaign for Governor in March, surrounded by over 400 of our closest friends and supporters, after saying in December I would be a candidate.

As far back as August I began reaching out to build a coalition strong enough to defeat an incumbent governor. I made a special effort to reach out to friends in the Democratic Party believing grassroots Democrats shared our goal of electing a governor more in touch with the needs of Vermonters. Many were very supportive. But, the Democratic State Committee refused to meet and talk about a combined effort. (more…)

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Friday May 16, 2008 Press Statement:

“Democracy strikes out today with the third veto from my opponent. First he vetoed campaign finance reform which would have limited big money in elections. Then IRV which would have increased participation and now national popular vote, changing our election for president into a one person, one vote system. It’s disappointing that the current governor stands in the way of strengthening our democracy. (more…)

Douglas Plan for Affordable Health Care: Drive Up the Rates

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

April 2, 2008 Press Statement:

Vermonters need to know that when it comes to health care the so-called affordability agenda is dead. While talking a good game, my opponent has done nothing to lower the cost of health care.
