Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

July 14, 2008 Press Statement:

The VermontCard is a new way to invest in Vermont and to lower credit card processing fees to save money for Vermont businesses.

Vermont’s economy is looking more and more like a leaky bucket, with financial resources, natural resources and human resources being drained away. We need to start plugging the holes in the leaky bucket of our Vermont economy, find ways to keep more of our dollars here to invest in Vermont, and grow our local economy. (more…)

Pollina Challenges Governor to Act on Heat

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

July 10, 2008 Press Statement:

“My message is simple. The heating season will soon be here. Vermonters are in danger of going cold. And believe me, some are scared.

Everywhere I go, everyone I talk to is worried about how they will pay to heat their homes this winter. In the last few days I have talked with senior citizens, small business people, nursing home staff and working families who want to know what we are doing to help them. (more…)

Pollina: Job Cuts Not Worthy of Bonuses

Monday, June 30th, 2008

June 30, 2008 Press Statement:

The Douglas Administration is one of missed opportunity and misguided priorities. The Administration is responding to lost jobs and a downturn in the economy by eliminating state jobs while giving “merit” bonuses to administration officials and funding more than a dozen tax-payer funded public relations positions. Pollina Statement on Douglas’ Inflating Own Record

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

June 25, 2008 Press Statement:

Our current governor is taking credit for work done by citizens and others and staking out positions that serve short-term political goals but are not in keeping with his record. A lifelong politician, our Governor recently portrayed himself as the voice of change. As if that was not enough of an image make over, he now wants VT to see him as the initiator of a grassroots movement. (more…)

Pollina Statement on Firings at IBM

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

June 24, 2008 Press Statement:

The firings at IBM are especially painful because IBM workers are not organized and because my opponent has not helped Vermont prepare for shifts in the global and local economy.

An organized workforce would have been better prepared to protect their jobs and negotiate with management. Rumors of the job cuts circulated among workers for weeks, but management denied them until today. Organized workers could at least respond from a position of strength. (more…)

Friday, June 20th, 2008

June 20, 2008 Press Statement:

When Vermont officials meet next week to discuss the rising cost of fuel oil they should consider dipping into the state’s rainy day fund to help the most vulnerable Vermonters.

We have to make sure Vermonters facing a cold winter and high heating costs get more than a bunch of hot air coming from Montpelier.  (more…)

Pollina Statement Regarding Douglas Campaign Announcement

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

June 18, 2008 Press Statement:

The question is whether Vermonters are better off than six years ago. Both “Jim Equals Jobs” and the “Affordability Agenda” were just empty slogans. New job growth is just about zero. The fastest growing jobs are low paying. Our bridges are crumbling, affordable housing is out of reach for many working families, we have no real energy plan and there has been no progress in cleaning up Lake Champlain.   (more…)

Pollina Statement on Heating Fuel Assistance

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

June 12, 2008 Press Statement:

It is scary that when faced with a heating fuel crisis our governor can only come up with warmed over ideas that will do little, if anything, to help seniors and working families stay warm in winter.

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

June 10, 2008 Press Statement:

We should not confuse this legislation with the important changes we need in health care. These changes to Catamount will help a few people but do nothing to lower health care costs for our state.  (more…)
