State is missing opportunities

Letter to the Editor:

Douglas Republicans, in collaboration with some Democratic legislative leaders, are holding Vermont back.

Failure to advance wind power leaves us behind our neighbors. Business interests are providing expensive solar add-ons to homes of the wealthy, but modest solar envelope homes could be a sensible state development effort.

Failure to invest in social services and innovative education leads to prison population growth. It is known that rehabilitation (not just institutional programs) and family contact are often the key to progress. Douglas is saving money by sending more inmates to southern jails. Do you expect much rehab and family contact time there? Lifers cost Vermont more than higher education.

Vermont needs progressive leadership to deal with expensive dysfunctional programs which fail to improve the human condition.

Support Anthony Pollina, not the spoiler Democratic candidate for governor.

  1. NICOLE LEBLANC Says:

I absoutly agree, VT CAN NOT AFFGORD ANOTHER 2 YEAR OF JIM DOUGLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS time for a change and a new direction and its time for a Governor who will not protect the rich and cut social service that support people with disabilties to live as independently as possible in the community, supported employment so that they can maintain their jobs and not rely on publicb assistnace like ssdi, ssi etc and it also helps with basic needs such as attendant care, wE ALSO need more public transportation given the high cost of gas. Cutting state jobs will negativly affect state services! We also need to lower Healthcare and Higher ED COST. IT IS unacceptable that We are the riches country in the world and we cannot provide universal healthcare just like they do in Denmark and Great Britian! No American or Vermonter should have to chhose between food or paying for healthcare/ medicine! IT’S TIME FOR REAL CHANGE ITS TIME FOR UNIVERSAL HEALCARE/ HIGHER EDUCATION
