Pollina: State Publication Overstates Douglas’ Record

Montpelier, Vermont — The Progressive in the race for Governor says a state publication overstates the record of Gov. Jim Douglas, R-Vermont.

At issue is a line in Vermont Harvest, written by the Agriculture Agency. It says, “initiated by Governor Douglas in 2003, the buy local movement is stronger then ever.”

Progressive Anthony Pollina says the buy local movement was a grassroots effort started decades ago. Pollina says when politicians take credit for work done by citizens it undermines people taking action in the future.

“I think it’s disingenuous to say that he led- had initiated the buy local movement. To me, to say Governor Douglas initiated the buy local movement is almost as ridiculous as saying Al Gore invented the internet,” said Pollina.

In response, Agriculture Agency officials say they were never trying to imply that Douglas started the buy local movement. Instead, they were referring to Douglas signing off on the state’s buy local program that started in 2003.
