Montpelier, Vermont — On the heels of Governor Douglas’ statewide campaign kickoff tour, Progressive gubernatorial candidate Anthony Pollina wrapped up a tour of his own.
Since Pollina formally entered the race three months ago, he says Vermonters have told him they want stricter enforcement of environmental laws, the clean up of Lake Champlain, investment in small, local businesses, an increase in public transportation, the creation of a local food supply and decreasing the state’s dependence on oil.
“People really want to see Vermont look at building its local economy, its local agriculture and its local energy base,” he said. “I really think that was one of the day messages, was that globalization is battering our state, the same way it’s battering the rest of the country. But what Vermonters have to do is find a way that we can really invest locally.”
Democrat Gaye Symington also used a statewide tour last month to kick off her campaign for Governor.
