Pollina Kicks Off Tour of State

Progressive Party gubernatorial candidate Anthony Pollina kicked off his tour of the state in Stowe, Vt. on Sunday.

Pollina, the only declared challenger to 3-term incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Douglas, plans to make stops in all 14 counties. Sunday’s event crosses Lamoille off the “To-Visit” list.

“I think Vermonters are tired of a governor who continues to tell them what they cannot do and they’re really ready for a governor who wants to bring people together to talk about what we can do,” he said.As for being a third-party candidate, Pollina said Vermont is ready for change.

“Sometimes people will say, ‘Well, in a three-way race the governor might win,’” Pollina said. “Well, I’ll tell ya, in a two-way race the governor has beat the Democrat every single time, so clearly that strategy is not working.”

A candidate needs to receive at least 50 percent of the vote in November to win outright. If no candidate gets that much support from voters, the Legislature decides the election. Therefore, even if Pollina doesn’t win himself, his presence could help decide who and how somebody else does.
